Effects of Hurricane Ike in Holguin

Here I send some data that show the magnitude of the damage made by the two hurricanes (Gustav and Ike) that hit Cuba in 8 days.


7 killed 2.5 million evacuees


370 000 houses affected (and will continue to rise)

3.726 banana horses in the country.

745 horses of cassava, sweet 74, and 150 of various crops.

40 million eggs and 430,000 laying hens. 1.455

livestock facilities damaged.

526 deaths in cattle.

12.000 tons of pork. 350.000

coffee cans.

153 landslides (37 of them total) in Havana, with 2.172 people who can not return to their homes by considered destroyed or uninhabitable.

37 damaged health facilities in the capital.

67.000 disrupted telephone lines in the country and affected cellular 32.000. About 20 people are still without telephone communication. 16 TV towers demolished.

All these figures are preliminary and will continue to rise
